County Councillor for Birstall
Since being elected as a Charnwood Borough Councillor for the Birstall Watermead Ward, Iain has worked hard to ensure that the concerns of the residents of Birstall are heard. Together with his other elected Conservative colleagues, he set up monthly ‘surgeries’ which have been held in the morning of the last Saturday of every month since December 2011.These surgeries have allowed free and easy access to all the elected Councillors of Birstall.
I am acutely aware of the urgent need of a primary school on the Hallam Fields development. I have been pursuing this issue at County Hall with Cllr. Ivan Ould (Lead Member for Children and Young People’s services) in an ongoing attempt to ensure that a primary school is built on Hallam Fields. I am hopeful of success.
Since its inception, I have taken an active interest in the work of the LE4 action group. They have done, and are doing; a sterling job of bringing to the publics’ notice the crass and cynical decisions of the Labour led Leicester City Council in allocating all their proposed gypsies and travellers’ sites to land adjacent to Birstall. I have secured an assurance from the leader of Charnwood Borough Council that no Gypsy and Traveller sites will be sited in Birstall.
