Nicky Morgan MP

Member of Parliament for Loughborough Constituency

Nicky Morgan, born in 1972, stood as the Conservative's Parliamentary Candidate for Loughborough at the 2005 General Election and again in 2010, when she was elected as the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

She has been married to Jonathan, an architect, since July 2000 and in January 2008 they had a son, Alex. They are proud to have their home in the constituency and play an active part in the local community.

Nicky grew up in Surrey and studied law at Oxford University. She worked as a solicitor specialising in Corporate Law advising a range of private and public companies from 1994 till her election in 2010.

In September 2010 Nicky was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Cabinet Minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. She had previously been elected by her fellow MPs to serve on the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee, but gave up that position following her appointment as a PPS.

In October 2013 Nicky was appointed Economic Secretary to the Tresury and served until April 2014. She was appointed Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Women and held these positions between April-July 2014. The Prime Minister appointed Nicky to the Cabinet in July 2014,  where she succeeded Michael Gove as Secretary of State for Education. Nicky also added the Equalities brief to her portfolio.
